Posted June 22nd, 2011: Message from Father Ted Tumicki

Dear Parishioners,

On behalf of Father Steve and me, let me again say how happy we are to be here!

While there will certainly be challenges ahead as we work together as three parishes, we are confident that we will not only meet the challenges but grow and become stronger parishes and a stronger Catholic Christian community.

Father Steve and I have worked out a schedule so that we can celebrate as many of the presently scheduled weekday Masses as possible.  We have also worked out a schedule so that each of us will be celebrating at least one Mass in each parish each weekend.

Certainly there will be some changes in the coming months.  One of the first things that will need attention is the Mass schedule, especially in light of the fact that there are presently three 10:30 a.m. Sunday Masses and only two priests to celebrate them.  While we presently have some additional priests helping us to celebrate Masses, we will not have that additional help starting in September.  Thus, some kind of change to the Mass schedule will be necessary.

As I write this column on Monday morning, I am preparing to meet with the councils, trustees, and/or restructuring committees from each parish to discuss our new arrangement as three yoked parishes and to listen to their concerns.  One of the tasks I will be entrusting to them is to prepare and propose a new Mass schedule, which will then be made public so that everyone will have a chance to comment on the proposed changes before we come up with a final schedule.  We will keep you updated as to how we are progressing with this.

If you have a question or concern about any of this or any other issue, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Father Ted Tumicki

Posted January 3rd, 2010 (from the Sunday Bulletin): 50th ANNIVERSARY MEETING

Please join us on Saturday, January 23rd, from 3:30 to 4:30pm in Siena Hall.
We encourage parishioners to attend a 50th Anniversary meeting of the dedication of our church. Come share ideas on how we can celebrate as a parish. All are welcome!

November 30th, 2009: We have posted a video clip from Fr. Joe’s recent Jubilee Celebration on the Clergy & Staff Page. You can see the video in HD by clicking this link. The video (YouTube) will open in its own browser window.

October 20th, 2009:  Saint Catherine of Siena Parish has been “clustered” with St. Thomas in Voluntown, and St.Mary’s in Jewett City for the upcoming Pastoral Planning program that has been instituted by the Diocese of Norwich. To facility Parish communication during this process we have set up a Pastoral Planning separate page on this website and also a Commentary Page. It is our hope that our parishioners will utilize the Commentary Page to post their thoughts and concerns on this process as we go through it.

Effective September 5th, 2009 the Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available from 4:15pm to 4:45pm prior to the 5:00PM Mass on Saturdays.

Starting with the weekend of September 6th, 2009 homilies are being posted to the parish website. Click this link for transportation.

THANK YOU from FR. GEORGE:

Thank you Dear Parishioners,
I believe I have said enough good-byes for awhile, but thank you’s can never be said enough. I truly appreciate all the time everyone put in to my going away mass and reception as it was great! All of the telephone calls, cards and gifts were overwhelming.  I will not be able to write a thank you note to everyone, so I hope you understand and accept this merger thank you note. You will be sorely missed and always in my prayers at daily mass. One thing I will take with me from Saint Catherine of Siena parish is this: a welcoming community is always a worshipping community.
Thank you and God Bless,
Fr. George

T he weekend of August 15/16, 2009 Fr. George Richards announced that he applied and was accepted and assigned by Bishop Cote as the new pastor at Sts. Peter & Paul Parish of Norwich.  We will be having a farewell Mass and reception at the 5pm Mass on August 29th with a dinner reception to follow in Siena Hall.
We will be welcoming Fr. Joseph Chacko as our new Parish Administrator on the weekend of September 5/6 at all the Masses.  An adminstrator is not a pastor.  He runs the day to day activities of a parish in the absence of a pastor without making major changes.  Fr. Joseph perfers to be called Fr. Joe.  Fr. Joe comes from India and has been working in the Norwich Diocese for the past three years with Fr. Jim Carini (a previous pastor here at our parish for ten years) at St. Matthews in Tolland, CT.  Let us give Fr. Joe a warm welcome as he begins celebrating Mass with our parish family.
