The Parish Council assists and advises the Pastor regarding issues and provides direction for the parish based on the Holy Spirit dwelling in the community. The Council serves as an instrument for sharing the mission of Jesus, proclaiming His Word, building His community, celebrating His liturgy, and serving His people.

Any parish member, 18 years old or older and in good standing, may submit their name for consideration. There are some formalities following the name submission. After a period of prayerful guidance, the names of selected members are drawn at random on Pentecost Sunday.

A term of membership is 2 years. Service is limited to 2 consecutive terms. A 2 term member may reapply for selection after one full term has passed. The Council President and Vice-president will be chosen each September by secret ballot. The President, with the concurrence of the Pastor will prepare the agenda and preside over the meetings. Officers will serve for one year.

There are a number of standing and Ad Hoc Committees as the Council sees fit. Regular Council meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of the month, September through June. Meetings are open to parishioners. The Pastor may call a special meeting at any time.

The nature of the Parish Council is to be Christ centered. Thus the council will reach most decisions through consensus.

The Parish Council works with the Pastor to promote the common good of the parish, encourage spiritual growth, and recommend the direction needed to achieve these ends. Therefore, the Council serves as an umbrella under which all parish societies and organizations flourish. The Parish Council is not involved in the day-to-day decisions or routine of every organization.

There is lots more to the guidelines but I think this gives the flavor of what we are about. We all share responsibility for our parish. Parish organizations work with the Parish Council on substantive issues, which have direct bearing on the common good of the parish.

Minutes of most recent Council Meeting as published.
